I like LEDs, I like them a lot. In fact it's one of the few things I cant help but mess with on a regular basis.
After writing the last entry I popped on to ebay and bought some new speedo bulbs, Identical to the ones fitted but they now produce a blue light which should make me happy when riding at night.
Of course this wasn't just a personal endeavour, I had realised that when writing my previous entry I had no photo's to back up what I was writing, So below is exactly what I did to fit the new, blue, speedo bulbs.
I began by approaching the speedo, which underneath looks like this:
I then gripped the cable nut with a set of mole grips, undid it and removed the square worm drive rev / speed cable
Once that was done I then needed to remove the speedo from the mounting bracket, this is the nut at the back of the speedo (as you see it above) and it takes a 14mm spanner,
Once the nut is removed the speedo just lifts up and out, once it's in your hand the two remaining nuts need to be removed using a 10mm spanner, the back of the speedo housing then lifts up and the back if the speedo is accessible.
The bulb is held in a little rubber holder which plugs into the back of the speedo, it's the little rubber bit with the green and brown wires running into it, I simply prised out the bulb holder, pulled the previous bulb out and re-fitted it, at this point I switched the lights on to ensure I had put them in the right way round, as LED bulbs are polarity dependant, If it lit up- good, if it doesn't light up- remove the bulb turn it around, put it back in, test again- no light? duff bulb.
Anyway, I popped the key in, switched it to ignition and flicked the parking switch on:
It worked! and it's blue, very blue.
After that it was just a case of re-fitting everything how I found it, but if I had the chance again I would not tighten the backing bolts as much, yep, I snapped one, but it's holding fine so i'm not too bothered.
And finally... Result!
A bit "boy racer" I grant you, but it's all about getting more fiddled with "custom"
